What is Motability?

The Motability Scheme is designed to give people with disabilities greater freedom and independence by making it easy to lease a brand‑new car that suits their individual needs — or the needs of the person they care for.

Vauxhall has proudly supported Motability since the scheme launched in 1977, and at Haynes Vauxhall we’re here to guide you every step of the way on your Motability journey.

Enjoy Greater Independence

A Motability vehicle can transform everyday life — whether it’s driving yourself to appointments, visiting family and friends, or simply getting out and about more comfortably and confidently.

With the scheme, you get a new Vauxhall every three years, and since most running costs are included in your allowance, all you need to cover is your fuel.

Adaptations Made Easy

The Motability Scheme offers a wide range of adaptations — from driving controls to boot hoists and hand accelerators — many at no extra cost as part of your agreement.

Am I (or the person I care for) Eligible?

Below is a simple breakdown of the qualifying mobility allowances.

Disability Living Allowance (DLA) – Higher Rate Mobility Component (HRMC DLA)

You may be eligible if:

• You are aged 16–64 and have at least 12 months remaining on your allowance
• You are over 65 and were already receiving HRMC DLA before 8 April 2013 (20 June 2016 in Northern Ireland), with 12 months remaining
• Your child is under 16 and has 12+ months left on their HRMC DLA

If your child has not yet been awarded the higher rate mobility component, you can check their eligibility through the DLA guidance.

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) – Enhanced Rate Mobility Component (ERMC PIP)

DLA is being gradually replaced by PIP for individuals aged 16–64.

You may qualify if:

• You receive the enhanced mobility rate
• You have at least 12 months of your award remaining
• You are awaiting a PIP decision after receiving a DWP invitation letter — in which case Motability may extend your current lease.

If you joined the scheme before 2013 and are no longer eligible, Motability will offer a transition support package.

War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)

If you receive WPMS from Veterans UK, you automatically qualify for the Motability Scheme.

Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

If you receive AFIP under the Welfare Reform Act 2012, you are also eligible to join Motability.
